Does documentary photography mean you won’t pose us?

Accepted Answer

I absolutely will pose you! Some couples are naturals and take off being adorable in front of the camera unprompted. While others want to know exactly where to put their hands for the most flattering shot. Some fall in between. I am flexible & will adapt to exactly who you need me to be in that moment.

As much as I thrive in an environment where I can be a fly on the wall to capture organic interactions, I can equally be the photographer who corrals folks together for the group shot you really want & I have a laundry list of classic, timeless wedding poses for couples/wedding parties/family in my head ready at all times.

If you're someone who wants certain shots, we will discuss this in advance & I'll have a handy checklist on me the day-of. Posing & prompting is so very important. Regardless of any "style" of photography, it is absolutely a photographers job to guide desired portraits, to capture moments with your favorite folks, & to keep the day on time.

With my approach, keeping to our portrait windows is the key so you may fully enjoy your celebration, rest assured that we captured the portraits you deserve without taking you away from the party longer than needed. How long have you been photographing weddings?

I have been photographing weddings since 2017, when I began working as an assistant for several local photographers. I have worked well over 150 weddings and been to nearly each venue in the Western PA area. I am grateful for the chance to work with so many different vendors to observe best practices and curate my own approach over the years. I have been documenting weddings independently since May of 2020 and took my business full-time in July of 2023. Ash K. Captures is a registered LLC, PA tax-paying entity, and can provide proof of insurance if requested by your venue.

What does working with you look like?

Accepted Answer

First, inquire! Even if you're just the slightest bit interested, and I'll get back to you within 2 business days (M-TH).

Then if I'm available, I will share my in-depth wedding guide for you and your partner to review together. If you're interested in hearing more, let me know and we will set up a call to connect. Being photographed is deeply personal, and it's important to me to meet each client personally before booking, even if it's just a phone call. This is our opportunity to feel confident in the match and begin talking about your package preferences if you're in.

Once you're ready to book, I require *25% of your total down as a non-refundable retainer and your signature on our Client-Service Agreement. Upon this, you're officially booked! *50% if you are booking within 6-months of your wedding date.

After that, I'd love to stay in touch! I am along for the ride as your wedding plans come together and anticipation builds. You may always bring your ideas and questions to me, photography pertinent or not. Some clients send me pics of their cats or DM me funny videos! I really value the opportunity I get to be part of this big, exciting time in clients' relationships. The more you open up to getting to know me, the more personalized your experience working with me will feel. However, you may just want to know me to the extent of "oh she's the girl that took our wedding photos," and that's ok too! The quality of my work will not be compromised either way. So I won't be pushy about being friends outside of our client-photographer relationship but it's always really special when that happens.

Anywhooo, next formal step is sending your questionnaire at 2-months to your date, or earlier if you prefer. It's full of questions to share your logistic information and portrait preference with me, to help me suggest portrait windows of time and to gauge the photographer you need me to be on your day. Once you respond, I'll begin drafting a timeline for us to review in our final call, scheduled no less than 3-weeks before your date.

During that call, we'll finalize everything and if any of it changes, I'll ask that you keep me in the loop! Upon wedding day, I can roll with the punches and adapt as needed, so as much as I love a timeline, you can rest assured that I can think on the fly and always have your best interest in mind.
